Overland AI builds tactical ground autonomy vehicles for defense. Founded in Seattle in 2022 by Byron Boots and Stephanie Bonk, the company spun out of the University of Washington and became the first company primed for US ground autonomy initiatives.
Byron Boots — Co-founder & CEO
Byron led the UW Robot Learning Lab and spent nearly a decade building robotic systems with the US Army Research Laboratory. His team's work on DARPA's RACER program became the foundation for Overland. Kirby was introduced to the company after its RACER win in 2022, and Ascend was Overland's first investor.
